Barcelona have been trying to offload Frenkie de Jong since June this year and finally they have found an unconventional way to do that! Critics might not agree with the way but Barcelona and president Joan Laporta couldn’t care less!
FC Barcelona are undoubtedly the most active European team in this transfer window so far. It’s just the first week of August and they have already signed up Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessié, Jules Koundé, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Marcos Alonso! They were also in talks with Brighton for Marc Cucurella but Chelsea were able to complete the transfer for the first time in this window!
With all these inputs and more to come, Barcelona must get rid of some from their current roster to balance the book and that’s where Frenkie de Jong comes in! He is one of the few sellable asset Barcelona have in their camp right now and they are trying to get rid of him for months! After failing several times to send him away, Barca and president Joan Laporta are now taking the hard path to kick the dutchman out of Camp Nou!
According to trusted journalist David Ornstein from the Athletic UK “Barcelona told Frenkie de Jong on July 15 they have evidence of criminality around his contract given by old board + cause for legal action vs all involved. Then they asked him to annul deal & revert to previous terms.”

So in simple terms Barca are threating De Jong to take a pay cut if he wants to stay if not they will take legal action against him!
